Hello, my friends and relatives, I shake your hand with good feelings in my heart. My Lakota name is Stands Alone Woman, but my English name is Baylee LaCompte. I am from the Standing Rock Nation. Head of the Camp Circle and Burned Thighs are my bands. I live in the Bear Soldier community, also known as the city of McLaughlin. My mother is Anna McLaughlin, and my father is Dale LaCompte. My grandfathers are Michael LaCompte and the late Phillip McLaughlin Sr. My grandmothers are Eileen Buckmier-LaCompte and the late Garnett Little Bear-McLaughlin.
I am the new JOM/Title VI Coordinator at the Mobridge-Pollock School. I am entering my second year in education and thrilled to have the opportunity to join the staff. I have experience teaching Lakota language and American Indian Studies courses.
I received my bachelor’s degrees from Black Hills State University in American Indian Studies and Human Services (Justice Studies) with a minor in Psychology. I recently graduated from Arizona State University with a Master’s in American Indian Studies (Indigenous Rights and Social Justice). I work diligently to implement the Lakȟól Wičhóȟ'aŋ (Lakota way of life) in everything I do. In my time off, I enjoy beading, sewing, reading books by Indigenous authors, and being an active board member of the Mni Wichoni Health Circle.
Please check for updates on the Mobridge-Pollock JOM Lakota Education Committee Facebook page, the district website for upcoming events, LEC meeting notices, and minutes.
I look forward to growing with all of you!
