2018 Mary Ludeman Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Lisa Zahn
Congratulations to Mrs. Lisa Zahn on being selected the 2018 Mary Ludeman Teacher of the Year for the Mobridge-Pollock School District. This is the second time that Mrs. Zahn has been selected Teacher of the Year in the district.
Mrs. Zahn is a graduate of Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota. Mrs. Zahn taught in the Gettysburg School District from 1994-2003. Mrs. Zahn and her family moved to Mobridge in 2003 where she became a general music teacher in the elementary. Over the years, Mrs. Zahn has taught music at every age level for the school district. Through this time, she has developed an incredible reputation that goes far beyond the boundaries of the Mobridge-Pollock School District. Mrs. Zahn is known through out the region and state as being simply one of the best general music and chorus teachers.
Mrs. Zahn has incredible passion and work ethic that is on display through her students. Mrs. Zahn takes a tremendous about pride in preparing all students to perform at a level that requires all of them to meet high individual standards.
Mrs. Zahn's students have received superior ratings at large group music contest for 13 consecutive years. Along with this, she has had students perform at state athletic events, SD Junior Honor Choir, SD Senior Honor Choir, National Association for Music Education National Honor Choir, and American Choral Directors Association Regional and National Honor Choirs.
In being recognized by your peers for a prestigious award like the Teacher of the Year, one must also demonstrate leadership within your discipline. Mrs. Zahn is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, member of the National Association for Music Education, and a member of the National Education Association/South Dakota Education Association. Mrs. Zahn served in a leadership position for the South Dakota Music Education Association from 2011-2016. She served as President of this organization from 2012-2014.
